Delicious Ceylon- The Digital Awakening

Background :

Delicious Ceylon, a walking food tour company in Galle, (led by the star, Devi) despite offering unparalleled walking food tours through the scenic heart of Galle, struggled to capture and convert interest due to a non-existent digital presence. With a visually unappealing Instagram and no official website, their booking numbers were dismal, often limited to one, sometimes two bookings a month.

Challenge:

The task was clear: build a digital presence from the ground up that not only attracted tourists digitally but converted them into paying customers. (TripAdvisor fees were horrible to them, so we had to get their website up ASAP)

Strategy and Execution: This was our digital strategy: Bring life to her Instagram, and build a sick website.

  1. Instagram Feed Revitalization:

    • Content Revamp: We overhauled the existing content strategy to focus on engaging, high-quality tour photography and videos that highlight the unique aspects of the tours, the food, and the beauty of Galle.

    • Reels-Focused Content: We decided to go with a video-focused approach, focusing on Meta reels that would catch on to the algorithm. It worked.

  2. Building Their Website From Scratch:

    • Design & Development: We built a unique, quirky, and visually engaging website from scratch, tailored specifically to embody the spirit and essence of Delicious Ceylon’s tours. The design process involved deep collaboration with the client to ensure every element from layout to content reflected the brand’s identity and value proposition.

    • User Experience Design: Focused on creating a seamless, intuitive user experience, the website features easy navigation and a straightforward, secure booking system. We integrated multiple payment systems so customers (who were mainly tourists abroad) would be able to pay through localized payment gateways. Special attention was paid to mobile optimization to cater to the majority of users who access the site via mobile devices.

    • Content Integration: The site was populated with rich SEO heavy content that included detailed tour descriptions, a gallery of captivating images, and narratives about the tour guides, with a special focus on Devi, who is central to the tour experience. Her stories and images are prominently featured throughout the site to draw in bookings and build a personal connection with potential site visitors.

  3. Targeted Advertising Campaign:

    • Budget-Smart Video Ads: Implemented a series of Meta video ads on a budget (less than $150 per month.) These ads reached over 300,000+ views each, and multiple converted tour bookings for Delicious Ceylon.

Results:

  • Instagram Transformation: The refreshed Instagram strategy led to a fourfold increase in engagement.

  • Website Success: The newly launched website quickly became the cornerstone of Delicious Ceylon’s digital strategy. It improved booking rates by over 150% in the first two months post-launch.

  • Effective Advertising: The targeted video ads achieved over 300,000 views each, dramatically increasing brand awareness and contributing directly to the increase in bookings.
